Researchers studied the effects of a new plant growth hormone on tomato plants. Each test group contained 100 plants grown under identical conditions except for hormone dose, with some plants receiving no hormone. After analyzing the height data, a researcher concluded that a low dose of the hormone may not inhibit plant growth, but a high dose does stunt plant growth.
Which finding from the study would most strongly support the researcher's conclusion?
A. The average height of plants given the high dose was significantly lower than the average height of plants given the low dose.
B. Plants given the low dose grew slightly taller than plants given no hormone, while plants given the high dose grew less tall than plants given no hormone.
C. The average height of all hormone-treated plants, regardless of dose, was lower than the average height of untreated plants.
D. Plants given the low dose grew slightly taller than plants given no hormone, but showed more leaf discoloration than both untreated plants and plants given the high dose.
