Drill
I was relaxing at the park recently with my book when a lively teenager approached me. After he settled on the bench beside me, he asked if I would be bothered if he let his pet chameleon off its leash. It was quite young, he said, and it enjoyed a little freedom.
To be honest, I've never been a fan of reptiles. They're peculiar, primal beings that belong in the desert, running on the sand, sunbathing on rocky outcrops, or hiding concealed within the sparse shrubs. Wanting to show civility, but with hesitation in my tone, I informed the teenager that it was fine by me. He thanked me as he unfastened the tiny leash and released the chameleon onto the grass.
