Desert succulents face a survival challenge: they need adequate sunlight for photosynthesis but risk severe dehydration when exposed to intense desert sun. Researchers Patel and Martinez found several species of Agave victoria, a rare desert succulent, growing beneath crystalline gypsum formations in the Sonoran Desert.
