Clearing the Clutter: The Focused Approach to ACT and SAT Grammar
Learning grammar doesn't mean transforming into a full-blown "grammar nerd" (though there's nothing wrong with that if it's your thing!). Modern education doesn't always provide enough exposure to the mechanics of English grammar, so I’m going to help you fill in those gaps. Once you’ve completed this course, you will have a solid foundation that applies directly to your SAT and ACT success.
Instead of teaching grammar in an abstract manner, this course centers on the essential elements of language that frequently come up on both ACT English and SAT Writing (on both the paper and “digital” SAT). The aim is to equip you with the grammatical knowledge required to increase your test scores.
Parts of Speech: The Building Blocks of Language
We kick off this series with a down-to-earth exploration of the parts of speech that are crucial for success on the ACT and SAT. Each part of speech is presented with a clear, no-nonsense definition, bolstered by practical examples. In order to truly grasp these grammatical elements, it's essential to see them in action and understand their roles within sentences.
Tackling the Tests: Linking Grammar to Specific Question Types
Becoming familiar with the parts of speech covered in this course will be invaluable in your quest to conquer the following question types:
Fragment Questions
Diction Questions
And more!
What's Next?
This article is just the beginning. In Part 2, we'll build on this foundation by delving into the mechanics of identifying complete sentences and distinguishing them from sentence fragments. In addition, I’ve also published a helpful set of 25 drills designed to cement your understanding of these critical parts of speech. Detailed answer explanations accompany these exercises, providing further insight and reinforcement.
